About The Definitive Guide Series

These books have been carefully designed to make finding your ideal fishing spot easy. First, it helps you to figure out how to plan the proper destination to fit your particular tastes and life-styles, and to provide you, your family and friends with the most enjoyable fishing experience possible.

At the beginning, you will see a listing of all the fishing spots written about in this book, along with eight categories to help you choose your destination (except the Northern California edition). These categories ("easy access", "camping", "good for kids", backpacking option", family friendly", beginners welcome", "hard-core anglers" and "scenery") provide an overview of what each fishing spot has to offer. By cross-indexing your requirements and desires, you will be able to quickly locate those few fishing holes that you might want to visit.

For those who want to choose their desired fishing location by geography, the Southern California edition has been broken into 17 geographical regions, all located in Southern California. The Central California edition has been divided into 25 regions, spaning from Santa Barbara to San Jose, Bakersfield to Stockton, and Mojave to Sonora Pass. The Northern California edition has 26 regions from the Stockton and South Bay Area to the Oregon Border and east to Nevada.

After selecting your desired region, go to the map preceding the section about that particular region. It lists all of the lakes, rivers and streams in that area. Then, it's as simple as choosing your ideal fishing spot and flipping to the corresponding page to learn more about it.

If you already know which body of water you want to fish, open to the table of contents and turn to the page with your favorite fishing hole.
Once you've chosen a location, the rest is easy. Each article is written and structured in a user-friendly format that provides you with quick, fun and easy reading.
The book is set up with 10 different categories containing all the information you could ever want to know about each lake, river or stream. The structure is as follows.........

  • Name of fishing hole

  • Rating

  • Species present

  • Fish Stocked

  • Facilities

  • Contact Information

  • Directions

  • Lake Information

  • Tips for Making the Trip

  • Nearby Attractions

California is one of the most diverse regions in the United States. Imagine fishing in a float tube with snowflakes drifting down from above and trout breaking water beside you at Crowley Lake; or basking in the desert sun as you look to catch corvina in the Salton Sea; or standing in the middle of the swift Kern River with a pair of wader working a fly rod vigorously just after a sparking hatch; or snorkeling Sespe River in search of the prized steelhead, bass fishing for record size largemouth in Clear Lake, floating down the majestic Smith River, soaking night crawlers for catfish in Lake Shasta and hooking enormous rainbows in the Fall River. It all happens here daily and these books will show you where to go to experience it.

These books have been a pleasure to compile. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed writing them.
